Aviation Medical Exam
Aviation Medical Exam regulates and implements medical requirements for professional flight crew, private pilots, air traffic controllers, and cabin crew. Applying for an aviation medical certificate or renewing an aviation medical certificate.
You will require a medical examination by a doctor specializing in aviation medicine. If you are aware of any personal or family medical history it would be prudent to mention this at the time of booking your medical and they can then advise whether you will need to bring along additional information/reports to the examination.
The first step in the process is to contact an Aeromedical Centre, which will be able to provide you with personal updates as the process goes on.
Medical examination at an Aeromedical Centre
If you do not already hold a medical certificate, you must contact an Aeromedical Centre to undergo a medical examination. Aeromedical Centers are specially approved medical facilities authorized to issue medical certificates for pilots. The examination and required tests take approximately half a day and appointments can be made directly through the AMC. There are set charges for all examinations and tests.
What to expect at your examination
You will need to complete the medical certificate application form. This is a signed declaration containing the following:
Facts about your medical history
Whether you have had a medical examination before, by whom and the result
Whether you have ever been assessed as unfit or had a medical certificate suspended or revoked

Certificate issue
A medical certificate can be issued on the same day as the examination if all the standards are met. However, if the required standards are not met or further investigations are necessary before a decision on medical certification is possible then the issue of the certificate will take longer.
Revalidation
A medical certificate can be revalidated before it expires or renewed after it has expired. Revalidation and renewal examinations should take less time than those required for the initial issue and they may not require all the additional tests. This depends on when the last test was carried out, the type of certificate held, and your age at examination. You can revalidate a medical certificate by taking a revalidation examination at an Aeromedical Centre (AMC).
Decrease in Medical Fitness
If a certificate holder becomes aware of a decrease in their medical fitness due to injury or illness, which may render them unable to exercise the privileges of their license, or becomes aware that they are pregnant, they must inform their Aeromedical Examiner (AME).
