Theatres

World Class Theatres

Our hybrid operating theatre modules are housed to enable clients to carry out minimally-invasive surgery.

This modular operating theatre facility can offer a significant increase in capacity during periods of high patient demand. Our modular Hybrid Operating Theatre solution gives hospitals a reliable, safe answer to capacity pressures across a range of specialties and procedure types. Our operating theatre facilities offer HEPA-filtered environmental air.

Innovative operations

Some of the surgeries done at Trauma Centre Borrowdale Hospital are:

Laparoscopic surgery (key Hole)

Laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen (tummy) and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin.

This procedure is also known as keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery. Large incisions can be avoided during laparoscopy because the surgeon uses an instrument called a laparoscope.

This is a small tube that has a light source and a camera, which relays images of the inside of the abdomen or pelvis to a television monitor.

The advantages of this technique over traditional open surgery include:

  • a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery time

  • less pain and bleeding after the operation

  • reduced scarring

Endoscopic (ERCP), Abdominal, Cardio thoracic

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a procedure that combines upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and x-rays to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.

Hybrid Theatre

Doctors use ERCP to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts. Doctors also use ERCP to diagnose problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts if they expect to treat problems during the procedure. For diagnosis alone, doctors may use a noninvasive test that does not physically enter the body—instead of ERCP. Noninvasive tests such as magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)—a type of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are safer and can also diagnose many problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.

Doctors perform ERCP when your bile or pancreatic ducts have become narrowed or blocked because of

  • gallstones that form in your gallbladder and become stuck in your common bile duct

  • infection

  • acute pancreatitis

  • chronic pancreatitis

  • trauma or surgical complications in your bile or pancreatic ducts

  • pancreatic pseudo cysts

  • tumors or cancers of the bile ducts

  • tumors or cancers of the pancreas

Neurosurgery

Most people think of neurosurgery as brain surgery — but it is much more! It is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injury to, or diseases/disorders of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, and peripheral nerves within all parts of the body. The specialty of neurosurgical care includes both adult and pediatric patients. Dependent upon the nature of the injury or disease a neurological surgeon may provide surgical and/or non-surgical care.

Spinal

Spinal fusion is surgery to permanently connect two or more vertebrae in your spine, eliminating motion between them. Spinal fusion involves techniques designed to mimic the normal healing process of broken bones.

During spinal fusion, your surgeon places bone or a bonelike material within the space between two spinal vertebrae. Metal plates, screws and rods may be used to hold the vertebrae together, so they can heal into one solid unit.

Gyne. Incl. C-Sections

A Cesarean section, or C-section, is a method of delivering a baby through a surgical incision in the mother’s abdomen. Many pregnant women prefer to give birth naturally, but your OB/GYN may recommend a C-section if certain health problems, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, make vaginal birth too risky. Often, however, the need for a first-time C-section doesn’t become obvious until labor is underway.

Urology

Urology is a part of health care that deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra). It also deals with the male organs that are able to make babies (penis, testes, scrotum, prostate, etc.).

Hybrid Theatre

Since health problems in these body parts can happen to everyone, urologic health is important. Urology is known as a surgical specialty. Besides surgery, a urologist is a doctor with the wisdom of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other parts of health care. This is because a urologist encounters a wide range of clinical problems.

Orthopedic Incl. HIP + Line Replacement

The hip is one of the body's largest joints. It is a ball-and-socket joint. The socket is formed by the acetabulum, which is part of the pelvis bone. The ball is the femoral head, which is the upper end of the femur (thighbone). The bone surfaces of the ball and socket are covered with articular cartilage, a smooth tissue that cushions the ends of the bones and enables them to move easily. A thin tissue called the synovial membrane surrounds the hip joint. In a healthy hip, this membrane makes a small amount of fluid that lubricates the cartilage and eliminates almost all friction during hip movement. Bands of tissue called ligaments (the hip capsule) connect the ball to the socket and provide stability to the joint.

What happens in total hip replacement?

In a total hip replacement (also called total hip arthroplasty), the damaged bone and cartilage are removed and replaced with prosthetic components.

  • The damaged femoral head is removed and replaced with a metal stem that is placed into the hollow center of the femur. The femoral stem may be either cemented or "press-fit" into the bone.

  • A metal or ceramic ball is placed on the upper part of the stem. This ball replaces the damaged femoral head that was removed.

  • The damaged cartilage surface of the socket (acetabulum) is removed and replaced with a metal socket. Screws or cement are sometimes used to hold the socket in place.

  • A plastic, ceramic, or metal spacer is inserted between the new ball and the socket to allow for a smooth gliding surface.

ENT

ENTs Treat the Fundamental Functions of Life

Imagine a singer not being able to sing, or you not being able to hear her beautiful music.

Hybrid Theatre

Imagine not being able to smell the earth after a spring rain, or not being able to taste and enjoy your favorite holiday meal. Imagine not being able to sleep through the night next to your loved one because they snore. These are some of the fundamental functions of life that make living so rich and wonderful. Yet when one or more of these functions no longer work the way they should, living is diminished or even jeopardized.

Hearing and balance, swallowing and speech, breathing and sleep issues, allergies, and sinuses, head and neck cancer, skin disorders, even facial plastic surgery are just some of the conditions that “ENT” (ear, nose, and throat) specialists treat. Professionally, ENT specialists are called “otolaryngologists” (pronounced: oh/toe/lair/in/goll/oh/jists), but it’s easier just to say “ENT.”

Coming Soon: Cardiac Stenting

A cardiac stent is used to treat narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. It can also be used to improve blood flow immediately following a heart attack. Cardiac stents are expandable coils made of metal mesh. Your doctor can insert one during a coronary angioplasty, a non-surgical and minimally invasive procedure
