To apply for or renew your aviation medical certificate, you must undergo a specialized examination conducted by an aviation medical doctor. Here are the key steps:
1. Disclose Medical History: When booking your appointment, provide your personal and family medical history. This may determine whether additional documentation or testing is required.
2. Schedule with an Aeromedical Centre: Contact a certified Aeromedical Centre for personalized guidance and direct appointment scheduling.
If you do not currently hold an aviation medical certificate, your Aeromedical Centre will conduct the necessary examinations. These centers are authorized to issue certificates for pilots.
• Duration: The entire process, including tests, typically takes about half a day.
• Fees: Specific fees apply to all examinations and tests.
• Recent optician and audiogram reports (if applicable) for those using glasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids.
• Identification (National ID or Passport).
• Submit all reports at least two weeks before your appointment.
Your Aeromedical Centre will advise on any additional preparation required before your examination.
During your visit, you will complete a medical certificate application form detailing:
• Your medical history.
• Records of previous exams.
• Any disqualifications or suspensions.
• Review of medical history.
• Vision and physical examination.
• ECG (electrocardiogram).
• Lung function assessment.
• Blood and urine tests.
• Audiogram and X-rays.
The exam may take up to four hours, and additional tests may be requested if necessary.
• If all standards are met, certificates are typically issued on the same day. However, further investigations may delay issuance.
Medical certificates can be renewed before or after expiration.
• Revalidation Exams: Often shorter and may omit certain tests, depending on the timing of your last examination, certificate type, and age.
This process can also be completed at an Aeromedical Centre.
• If you experience a decrease in medical fitness due to injury, illness, or pregnancy, you must notify your Aeromedical Examiner (AME) immediately..
